Arthur Conan Doyle

Arthur Conan Doyle (1859–1930) was a British author and physician best known for creating the legendary detective Sherlock Holmes. A prolific writer, Doyle authored historical novels, science fiction tales, plays, and poetry, but it is his Holmes stories—beginning with A Study in Scarlet (1887)—that cemented his legacy. His deep belief in logic and reason, balanced with a fascination for spiritualism in later life, defined his unique literary voice.

A Few Fun Facts:

▪ Doyle based Sherlock Holmes on Dr. Joseph Bell, his medical school professor renowned for his powers of observation.
▪ He once helped exonerate two men wrongly convicted of crimes, effectively acting as a real-life detective.
▪ Tired of Holmes, Doyle killed him off in 1893, but public outcry forced him to resurrect the character in The Hound of the Baskervilles and subsequent tales.
